Vaccination against Diphtheria, tetanus and polio (over 14 years)
Diphtheria
Diphtheria is a spread by exhaled water droplets and occasionally via infected skin legions. It is a bacterial disease which can be fatal if left untreated.
If you are visiting developing areas of the world and mixing with the local population, you are more at risk of contracting diphtheria and so you should make sure that you’ve had your diphtheria vaccine updated within the last 10 years.
Tetanus
Tetanus is an important vaccine that children and adults should have before travelling abroad. Your tetanus vaccination should be updated every 10 years.
The bacteria which can cause tetanus, lives in the soil all over the world and if this comes into contact with an open wound, it can lead to a serious infection.
Tetanus causes uncontrollable muscle spasms and can be fatal.
Polio
Polio does still exist in some African and Asian countries. The disease is spread through contaminated food and water and attacks the central nervous system.

Hepatitis A vaccination in Esher
As well as being contaminated through food and water, hepatitis Ais also contagious and can be contracted by physical contact with someone who has the disease.
Hepatitis A can incubate for up to 5 weeks before any symptoms emerge which makes this disease difficult to identify until later.
As well having a vaccination, you can help reduce your chances of chances of catching for hepatitis A by drinking bottled water and ensuring that your food is well prepared.
Typhoid vaccinationin Surrey
Typhoid is contracted through the consumption of water that has been faecally contaminated, so it is commonly found in areas where there are poor sewage systems. It can also be contracted through contaminated food and water especially where there is poor food hygiene.
Typhoid causes a fever which can last up to 3 weeks after first becoming infected. If it is left untreated, it can spread through the gut wall and become a far more serious form of infection.
To avoid catching typhoid, be sure you book a typhoid vaccination and eat and drink healthily whilst abroad.
Hepatitis B vaccination in Surrey
It is more common in widespread countries with densely populated areas such as Asia and Africa.
Symptoms can be mild to begin with which means it is harder to detect. If hepatitis B is left untreated, it can lead to people becoming life-long carriers of the disease.
At The Levitas Clinic in Esher, we offer vaccinations to protect against hepatitis B in children, a standard adult vaccination against hepatitis B and an accelerated vaccination for hepatitis B for those over the age of 18.

Vaccination for Japanese encephalitis
Japanese encephalitis is a viral brain infection and symptoms can range from those similar to mild flu, through to severe symptoms that affect speech, movement and fever. There is no known cure and treatment involves supporting people, usually in hospital, as they try to fight off the infection.
At The Levitas Clinic in Esher, we offer vaccinations against Japanese encephalitis for children from 2 months to 3 years and then for anyone over the age of 3.
Meningitis ACWY vaccination in Esher)
The meningitis vaccine is usually offered to children from the ages of 13.
Students should ensure they’ve had the meningitis vaccination before they go off to college or university. This is because there is a higher risk of infection when mixing closely with a lot of new people who may unwittingly be carrying the bacteria at the back of their nose and throat.
Rabies vaccination in Surrey
Rabies can be fatal so it’s important to get vaccinated if you’re travelling to an area where rabies is common. You should also get vaccinated if you plan to stay in a country for a long time where access to medical care is slow or if you plan to do activities that means you might be exposed to animals carrying rabies.
It takes up to 4 weeks to complete the course of vaccinations against rabies so you should plan your vaccination at least one month before you travel.
Once abroad and in a high-risk area, you should avoid contact with animals especially those prone to biting, licking or scratching.
Tick-borne encephalitis vaccination in Surrey
You can be bitten by a tick but not always develop TBE. Symptoms of the disease include a circular red rash and flu-like symptoms.
You should consider getting the TBE vaccination if you’re visiting a country where the infection is common, and if you plan to do outdoor activities such as camping and hiking in forest and grassy areas where ticks live.
You will need to have at least 2 vaccinations to protect you against TBE and you need to have the first injection about a month prior to travelling.
When abroad, you can avoid being bitten and therefore reducing your chance of developing TBE,by covering your skin whilst walking, using insect repellent on your body and clothes and sticking to paths rather than walking through undergrowth.
